[ The video clicks on to a view of the ceiling in one of the rooms of the Blackthorn Inn. The fan is slowly circling, and the only other thing visible in the frame is an arm reaching straight up from slightly off screen, holding up a Rising Badge. ]

We've already figured out that collecting a whole set of badges doesn't actually get you anything of value, right? Or did that finally change while I wasn't looking?

[ Joshua sighs, and the arm lowers out of the feed. There's the sound of it hitting the bed, and the camera shakes just the slightest. ]

You'd think that after I spent this long collecting them, I'd feel prouder at finally winning the last one. Mmm, perhaps this isn't really for me after all.

[ After a pause, he giggles. Then he rolls over and leans over the Gear, his face finally entering the camera's view. ]

How about this? Tell me about the worst thing that happened to you at home that you're still willing to talk about. Even if it doesn't seem to compare to what others have been through. Tragedy is quite relative, after all.

It was an unpleasant month. I'm glad to have this vacation.

I can certainly imagine. Is it always so exciting back in your world, or was the meteor a special occasion?

My world has plenty of excitement, but otherworldly creatures trying to destroy it still count as special occasions, thankfully.

In that case, I have to ask: what passes for "normal" excitement?

Regular monsters, visits to other towns, friends trying spells of their own creation on unwitting passersby...

... On second thought, I suppose that's not surprising, considering the rest.

It's relatively common. I have little talent for it, but that still suffices.

Do the monsters have magic, too?

Plenty do. It mostly depend on their species.

How do they compare to those around here? Let's say, wild Pokemon, rather than trained ones.

...Even the weakest monsters can easily kill unprepared travellers. Pokémon cannot compare to that.

In that case, I see what you mean when you say this place isn't dangerous. Are you enjoying the break?

Most of the time. This place has its advantages, I must admit.

Do you still prefer the world you came from?

Of course. I'd prefer it over a thousand worlds.

Are you that sentimental a person?

Those thousand worlds would not have my family or my duty. Sentimentalism or not, that makes them less interesting.

You must either have a rather fantastic duty or a rather poor imagination, if you think there could be nothing out there more interesting than what you already know.

What could possibly be more interesting than watching my son mature and grow?

Plenty. One person's life is rather dull and inconsequential overall. But sentimentality is what makes that life important to you.

In that case, consider me proudly sentimental.

If he could be here with you instead, what would you think of that?

It would make for a pleasant family vacation at first, but then we'd wish for Rosa's presence. Then Kain's. Then Cid's. ...If it lasted that long, of course.

Mmm, and at what point would you be satisfied?

...Quite possibly never. I'd want my whole world here, safe and happy.
