Are all of the challenge teams actually well-rounded, or did Blue just want to be some special exception? I do suppose the joke may be on me for expecting the Earth Badge to be something like ground type.

As far as I recall, they usually have a theme, but there are some exceptions. The badges don't necessarily reflect their fighting style.

[Perona really doesn't care much for the actual intended message here. Oh no, her thoughts and heart goes out for the lovely and adorable Absol that looks like it just went through hell and back. Oh, the poor thing! I-It's so pretty...and so fluffy and adorable! She wishes she could be there to wrap its wounds or just snuggle it.]

Aah, you poor thing! All that beautiful white fur...blackened so! [She turns her attention on the actual trainer now, brows knitting together.] Oi, you. Boy. Take better care of preventing harm unto your pokemon! Cute, beautiful creatures like that one shouldn't look so shabby! Make sure to treat its wounds properly, too! [Back to the Absol, and her tone and expression changes.] It doesn't still hurt, does it? Fluffy cutie...
