Feather 12 [Video]

[ Not that January 1st was actually Joshua's birthday instead of just being a handy date to roll up his age one more year, but Joshua couldn't help the feeling that somehow Johto had hatched his shiny new egg into a... well, shiny new male fox, of all things, this day on purpose.

It probably could only have been more on the mark if the thing had been some combination of grey, blue, and/or purple. ]

Since this isn't exactly the first time it seems everyone spontaneously obtained an egg all at once, I'm going to ask a different question. Do we have any idea what determines which Pokemon we each receive?

[ And if anyone happens to be in Cianwood, Joshua can be found towards the outskirts of the city, sitting sideways on an Absol, Espeon on shoulder and a newly hatched golden Vulpix on his lap, all four of them watching as a Luxray happily bounds about on the sand and knocks out any Pokemon it scares up with its antics. ]

... Fair enough.

Maybe there just... isn't anything to document. Maybe that particular one hasn't ever done anything since.

Haah?

I'm human! Hyuuga-sensei saved me once, so he's like a hero to me, and I look up to him! I want to be like him and protect the people I care about.

[ and, because he was confused by the question -- ]

...Did something about me seem -- unhuman?

With practice you can. [Which he has. Plus he doesn’t discount the smarts of his buddies.] They’re smarter than they look you know.

Maybe not in your world.

[He sincerely wishes so; it's bad enough he's found out Nazca Lines do exist in some worlds other than his own, but he'd rather it didn't apply to all of them.]

Oh, I view upon mine quite favorably. I've witnessed many others that haven't, sad as it is. [ Her voice indicates it's not really sad. ]

... Ever heard of the Nazca Lines?
friendyousohard: (Neat.)

[personal profile] friendyousohard 2013-01-12 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
That I can't answer. Then again, the text I found was so old... maybe there were other ones once, and that's just the only surviving one, at least in any of the Johto libraries I've seen.
enjoymyatelier: but what would that even do. (gradients of babylon...?)

Well, given that this place occasionally does operate on logic I'd consider naive under normal circumstances, it's entirely possible the same entity is responsible for both... but it's still difficult to say. Researching the legends of regions other than Kanto and Johto have proven fairly tedious, though I've seen some evidence to indicate that some sort of creator deity may exist in the legends of one region or another. Of course, whether it matches up to the legends or not is difficult to say without more information.

To be honest, I'm not even sure if Pokemon breed the same way as animals that you and I would be familiar with, given that there are apparently some breeding pairs that would be outright impossible biologically if that were the case.
friendyousohard: Unsure looking Twilight. (Erm... are you sure about this Pinkie?)

[personal profile] friendyousohard 2013-01-13 09:56 am (UTC)(link)
Not a single one. None of the other legends I've seen are really on that level. Impressive, yes, but not creation myths.

Good for you, then!

You’re right, smarts will only get you so far. Because on its own it’s meaningless. You have to temper it with other things like spending every waking hour together or at least knowing enough about that person or pokemon to know how to help them get better.

What ways have you heard of?
licentious: (I don't think of it like a pole dancing)

[personal profile] licentious 2013-01-14 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
Just how do you think? Misery can only lead to more misery.
enjoymyatelier: maybe he should check the foundations, come to think of it. (red car. good point.)

Oh, of course there are specific patterns that it follows, and it obviously requires two Pokemon of opposite sexes-but beyond that, I don't think we know much about it at all, and it's possible that there may be something unusual about it that explains where these 'gift' eggs are coming from.
