Feather 14 [Action/Video]

[ Action - For Neku ]

[ Joshua and Neku reached Azalea last night, and after several days of traveling, Joshua is always happy to sleep in a comfortable bed. The next morning, he rises early like usual and looks around the room the two are splitting. It almost looks like a war zone with all the Pokemon strewn about, almost all of them asleep or at least resting.

But then something catches his eye. The familiar dark blue, light blue, and purple pile of fur which is his Espeon and Luxray curled up together is broken this morning by patches of brown. And it's not until Joshua climbs out of bed and moves closer that he realizes that that brown isn't fur: the patches are smooth and oblong. ]

... I don't believe you two.

[ Ten seconds later, Joshua has extracted the three eggs from between the two happily-sleeping parents. He puts one brown one by his bag and dumps the other two, one brown and one dark blue, on Neku's bed. ]

You can't say I didn't warn you. These are your responsibility now.

[ Video ]

[ A little later on in the morning, Joshua addresses the public. ]

What makes the children take after one parent or the other? At least, I'd say it's safe to assume this is an Eevee egg.

[ He pans the camera down to show, sure enough, an Eevee egg sitting in his lap. After a moment he brings it back up to himself. ]

This is the third time these two have produced eggs, but the first time any of the children are Eevees, much less most of them.

... And out of curiosity, to those of you who decided on an evolution path for an Eevee. What sort of things went into your decision?

[ Oh my god, did you have to wake him up he was pleasantly sleeping and dreaming for once, you jerk. Neku groggily groans and swats at the cause of the noise before he notices that his bed is a bit more crowded and... oh. Oh Joshua wasn't exaggerating about how often this happened, now was he? ]

Why's this one brown...? [ too...tired to process. it should be blue why isn't it blue like the one his Luxray came out of. ]

Oh.

[ Neku drowsily sits up and eyes the egg, poking it. ]

...What am I supposed to do with the other one? [ the blue one, josh, he already has a shinx. ]

I guess I could sell them over the network sometime...

[ Well you know what... ]

I'll figure something out. [ Or something! He doesn't seem too concerned as he pokes the brown egg again. ]

I would say that it seems more typical for eggs to be of the mother's species, though I've no idea what determines it.

And I brought Jina to the store and let him decide how he wanted to evolve.

Well, I didn't have very many others at the time, so it really didn't matter much. Besides, there seems to be no harm in letting them wait and choose when they're ready to evolve.

That depends on the species, actually. Most of eevee's evolutions learn more moves specific to their types, yes, but many of the others who require a stone to evolve learn few or not moves after.

I think there are a few moves they can only learn as eevees, at that, but I suppose there's advantages and disadvantages either way.

Who the mother is. There's this whole huge thing about it I found. See, the kids have a one in four chance of taking after the dad, but they inherit whatever the other parent knows who isn't the parent they took after.

...

I dunno why it's one in four though.
itsjustdust: (And you see how awesome!)

Right. It's all the same chance with every egg, not relative.

The only exception is a Ditto. Then it's always the other parent's breed. I have NO IDEA how anyone gets Dittos.

Yep. Oh! And the kids always get the other parent's skills. So if those eevee's are the dad's breed, they'll have mom's skills.

[Have Laguna, with a smug Flareon riding on his head, as they cross the lands on Venusaur.]
Well, Aurora here - I was gonna use a Fire Stone on my Growlithe, but she up and snatched it, so... I guess I didn't really choose! I didn't really have any evolution in mind for her, though.
[A bit of a rub behind his head - a bit of a stroke for the Flareon, more like.]

Well, I wouldn't have been able to decide. I mean, I've heard there's so many different kinds of evolutions for them.
